((((((((Katie))))))))),
I can relate to some degree...and from the other side too. I left my girlfriend to become a JW. My heart was broken - I cried myself to sleep every night - but I needed my parents acceptance and becoming a dub was the only way to get it. Aaaaaand, if I was going to be a dub, I couldn't be a lesbian. So I moved back home, got baptized, did the "right" thing and married an elders' son. MAYBE twice a year! I just couldn't take it. I was on three meds for depression, anxiety, and nightmares. I ended up committing adultery and almost becoming an alcoholic. I finally decided to do what was right for me because I wanted to be happy. The elders were only going to reprove me but I told them it would be a waste of their time because I was going to move in with my girlfriend. So they disfellowshipped me. I've gone through HELL since then with my family but that is another story....my poor lover got stuck in the middle of the storm. But it is the BEST thing I could have done. My seven year misery is over.
My point is that YOU have to do what makes YOU happy. And that means moving on. Get another lover, there are plenty out there. I found a wonderful woman and my life is AWESOME now! I know it is easier said than done but time heals all wounds. Don't dwell on what you have lost...take up a new hobby or something to take your mind off of her. Go out and meet some new friends. You will get through this, you are a strong woman. Feel free to email me to vent if you'd like...since I'm 'family' I can relate.

JWs and Stronger Marriages?
by Pubsinger ina bit of a follow on from the "honesty" thread.. another claim that jws make is that they have stronger marriages and are less likely to divorce.. try writing down all the jw couples that you know of that have divorced.. there are bonus points for those who didnt make 2yrs!.
i think you will be shocked at the number you can come up with.
we came up with 60 couples in less than 20mins.

After 4 1/2 years of marriage my JW husband and I got a divorce. Add another one to the pile....
His mother was especially upset b/c she said that whenever she and her husband had problems they couldn't just split up. She was obviously upset because it wasn't "allowed" by the WTS.

Witnesses Are Great Folks
by FrankRaven ini know i'll get a lot of flack from this, but witnesses are good folks.and your average witness is concerned about you,non-witness.i've been there and i almost became one.my ex did become one.
it's not what they are taught by the watchtower,it's how one is taught.if one was what a witness was taught there wouldn't be any witnesses.it's how one is taught.most of the witnesses always told me,if you have any questions there's a book by the society that will answer your question.
(s)the watchtower is persistent.well so was i.the more books i read that the watchtower wrote, the more questions i had.and i,always, made sure i stayed on the topic.they never did.they always avoided my questions.and they are real good at that.

I agree with SYN and Ashi. JWs as a whole are KNOWN as good people but when you break it down on an individual basis the stats can be VERY different.

Using labels to avoid the issue
by Simon inwe all know how the wts works and how they have built up a clever lebelling system which they can use to prevent having to address the real issues.
one word and someone's arguments vanish into dust and all credibility is shot:.
"apostate".

Thank you for being fair, Simon.

Why Ex-JWs Will Never Go From Door to Door
by comforter injehovah's witnesses proclaim the good news of the kingdom under the power of god's holy spirit.
jesus commanded his followers to preach in the most distant parts of the earth and promised them that the spirit of god would guide them in this life-saving work (acts 1:8).. without the spirit of god, one cannot continue preaching about jesus and god's kingdom (matthew 24:14).
one surely will not have god's spirit if one preaches a negative message (against jehovah's servants) from door to door.

We don't need to go door to door....you should know that no one wants to be a JW anyway! Duh!
Besides, I've found it more fun to do "street work". I just toss mags in the garbage at the laundry mats and such whenever I see them.
